This isn’t news. We all know that while it’s important to protect our skin against UV rays all year round, the summer months mean more beach trips, patio gatherings, and generally just spending as much time outside as possible, soaking up the sun while we can.

But fun in the sun makes it SO. EASY. to lose track of time, plus there are people out there who still think they need to acquire a base burn (??) to ensure they tan more easily, and that is just wild to us.

All this to say that now, more than ever, we could all use a little sun safety refresher. So here’s a little guide to keep in mind as we make the most of the months ahead!

But First, Sunscreen.

The importance of sunscreen cannot be understated! Make sure you’re applying an SPF each morning before you head out the door, and reapply as needed throughout the day (after sweating, swimming, etc).

And just so you know, we’ve come a long way in the world of sunscreen innovation! There are some fantastic SPF facial moisturizers out there, formulated specifically for the sensitive skin on your face, and varieties that cater to specific skin types. Some are even slightly tinted to help eliminate the need for foundations or concealer.

Also, a tip: When applying sunscreen to your face and body, make sure you’re being thorough – shoulders, chest, tops of ears, and under your eyebrows are often the first to burn, and the most easily skimmed over or missed entirely.

For Extra Protection, Cover Up.

Maybe you think you’re not a “hat person”, but we guarantee there is a style out there that looks perfect on you. Baseball cap, wide brim, even a visor. Your face will really thank you for the extra protection. And if you’re at the beach, it’s always a good idea to have a light, billowy coverup to throw on when you’re not in the water. Even the cutest swimsuits mean more surface area to burn if we’re not careful!

It’s Okay To Be Shady Sometimes.

The sun is at its highest, and therefore strongest, around midday. Even in the animal kingdom, there is a natural inclination to head to the shade during peak sun hours for a little extra protection and some much-needed respite. Did you know shaded surfaces can be 11-25 degrees cooler than their unshaded counterparts?? That is incredibly substantial! The sun can be draining without us even realizing it, so it’s important to seek out some shady spots if you’re going to be outside most of the day.

Drink All The Water.

Any liquid will do, but water is generally best. It is recommended that we take sips throughout the day, even before we start to feel thirsty. This is the best way to fend off dehydration, or worse – heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Treat Yourself To A Hydrafacial.

Even with sunscreen, summer skin tends to be tighter and more prone to wrinkling and moisture loss. Contact us to book a luxurious hydrafacial to help replenish moisture, fend off flaking, and prime your skin to absorb your summer skincare routine even more effectively.

Have fun and take care out there, everyone!
