It may be Spooky Season, but that doesn’t mean you have to let your skin get scary before giving it the love it needs!

We’re not suggesting wearing these particular face masks out and about while running your daily errands on the 31st – the masks we’re going to talk about here are more about adding a little extra “me time” into your day. To remind yourself to slow down, take a few breaths, and lavish your skin with love. After all –  it’s just as much about the ritual of applying the mask, as it is about the ingredients.

So, let’s take a look at some common DIY face mask ingredients you probably already have at home, and then whisk up some recipes, depending on your skin concerns!

The Ingredients

Keep in mind, this is not a recipe! Just a nice long list of natural skin-loving ingredients you probably already have on hand, and their main benefits. We’ll get to the recipes after 🙂

Oatmeal: Anti-inflammatory and soothes itchy or irritated skin.

Avocado: Contains high concentrations of healthy fats to add moisture, and vitamin E, an antioxidant that may protect against free-radical damage.

Honey: A natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, honey can also soothe, reduce redness and irritation, and even help with exfoliation while protecting your skin’s natural moisture barrier. Raw is preferred to pasteurized, as all the enzymes and extra benefits from the hive remain intact.

Green tea: Contains a high concentration of polyphenols – antioxidants that can have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Plain yogurt: Contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates skin, plus its soothing properties  help calm inflamed skin. Plus, the probiotics help maintain your skin’s natural microbiome.

Turmeric: Soothing, anti-inflammatory and brightening. Plus it can help reduce blemishes.

Aloe vera: Full of vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12 – making it perfect for soothing and hydrating stressed out skin.

Cacao (or raw cocoa powder): Brightens and boosts circulation.

Papaya: Full of vitamins and exfoliating enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells.
